The Feast of the Holy Face of Jesus
is celebrated on “Shrove Tuesday” February 21st, the day before the beginning of Lent.

  • The regular 9:00 a.m. Mass will be the “Mass of the Holy Face of Jesus”.
  • A documented relic of the Image of the Holy Face of Jesus will be in the church.  The original of this image is in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
  • Following the 9:00 a.m. Mass there will be the regular Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for all day adoration.
  • Confessions will be heard from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and during the regular evening time of 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Following the evening confessions, there will be devotional prayers to the Holy Face of Jesus and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.  Following the Benediction, those who wish can be anointed with oil that burns before the Image of the Holy Face.
  • This anointing will be for healing: spiritual, physical and emotional; healing of relationships; healing within families and between spouses; haling within the Church at large, within this Archdiocese and within this parish.  This anoint is not to be confused with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

Tithing:
Needed each week:      $6,902.00
                        Collected last week:      $5,707.68

Regulations for Fast and Abstinence during Lent
- Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence from meat.  There is a limit of one full meal on these days and no eating between meals.  This is binding for those between the ages of 18 and 59.  The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat.  All who have reached their 14th year are bound to abstain totally from meat.  Voluntary acts of self-denial are encouraged for the other days of Lent.

Wednesday of this week is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the holy season of Lent.

  • There will be two Masses on Ash Wednesday: 12:00 Noon and 7:00 p.m.  (Please note that the time of the Wednesday evening Mass is 7:00 p.m. and not the usual time of 6:00 p.m. This change is made to allow people who work to more easily attend Mass.)
  • Ashes will be blessed and distributed during both Masses.
  • Ash Wednesday is to be observed as a day of fast and abstinence.  Please see the separate announcement about the laws of fast and abstinence during Lent.

The Stations of the Cross are prayed on the Fridays of Lent at 7:00 p.m. Make it a Catholic Lenten tradition to attend the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry, followed by the Stations of the Cross.

The Knights of Columbus will have their Lenten Fish Fry
on the Fridays of Lent from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Many “older” Catholics grew up with the tradition of fish fry and Stations of the Cross on the Fridays of Lent.  Pass this tradition on to your children and grandchildren.  This year, the door prize will be a flat screen television and will be awarded after Easter.  For every fish dinner purchased, your name will be entered in the drawing.  The more dinners you purchase the more chances you have to win.  The prices have not increased for several years and will remain the same; $7.00 for a large dinner and $5.00 for a small dinner.

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
will be offered on Friday following the 9:00 a.m. Mass.

Religious Articles
will be sold this weekend before and after all of the Masses.  The parish makes a profit of 10% on the sale of all these items that come from the Marian Center in Louisville.

Spring Festival Raffle Tickets
are now being sold before and after all of the Masses.  Recall that:

  • We will sell only 300 raffle tickets at $50.00 each.  There will be one winner of $5,000.00 and the parish will make $10,000.00!
  • Raffle tickets can also be purchased at the Parish Office.
  • For your convenience, order forms are also available at the doors of the church.  These can be used to sell raffle tickets to your family and friends.  Turn in the completed order form and money for the ticket, and the ticket stub will be mailed to the appropriate person.
  • The profit from this year’s raffle is being designated to go toward building a portico over the Wilson Road entrance to the church.

The Parish Spring Festival will be on Sunday, May 20th from 12:15 to 3:30 p.m. in the Parish Life Center.
In addition to the raffle:

  • Empty baskets for the “Silent Auction” are available this weekend along with theme suggestions.  When filling a basket please keep in mind that the basket goes to the person with the highest bid, regardless of how much you may have spent in filling the basket.
  • The parish is also requesting donations of home interior items, such as knickknacks, pictures, dishes, candles, non-Christmas decorations, etc. (Please, no clothes, furniture or large items.) These donations will be used as prizes for some of the free games that will be part of this year’s festival.  Please bring your donations to the church sacristy or to the Parish Office.

November Pilgrimage to Italy –
Brochures with full details are now available at the doors of the church.  This will be a 12-day pilgrimage, leaving on Tuesday, November 6th and returning on Saturday, November 17th.  Fr. Cousens will be the Spiritual Director of this pilgrimage.

40 Days for Life spring campaign kicks off this spring, from February 22nd to April 1st.
Our community is uniting with hundreds of other cities around the world for the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history.  People of faith are praying and fasting that this effort will help bring an end to the tragedy of abortion recognizing that “with God all things are possible”.  To date over 5,000 lives have been saved, 19 abortion mill have closed and 61 abortion mill workers have become prolife.  The Respect Life Committee will be taking part in the prayerful vigil on the sidewalks in front of the abortion clinic in Louisville.  However, the date is yet to be determined, details upcoming.  Please consider praying and fasting at home during this campaign and joining us at the prayerful vigil.
